A good book that talks about this is Murray Sperber’s Beer and Circus:How Big-time College Sports Is Crippling Undergraduate? Education.He was a professor at Indiana U and used research obtained from questioning students,faculty and administrators from around the country.

Part of the sports teams bringing more money in is name recognition. For example, how many state uni’s would be as well-known as they are if they didn’t have sports teams. Nebraska, Oklahoma, and the three Iowa schools come to mind. So in their cases, name-recognition brings up enrollment.
And with all the? talk about the healthcare exchanges that are supposed to go online in 2014, I can’t help but think we need something similar for uni’s. Google only goes so far.

@nickbeau1 And as for the? Oklahoma State comment, and your supposed team ranking. Try looking at the final week polls of last season. Nebraska is 22nd, BEHIND Oklahoma State at 19th. Everything you’ve said was opinionated and disproved by the stats i mentioned. Do yourself a favor, and shut up before you make your school even more retarded. You can talk defense all you want, but that’s only half the game and you know it.

@nickbeau1 I’m talking end of polls, before the bowl games, while everyone is still playing. Nebraska probably will win the north this season, that being because Iowa State has the hardest schedule in the north, and I don’t know how Missouri? will do. But Nebraska will never win the total conference and you know it. That’s why they’re going to the Big 10, they can’t win here. But I’ll put my money on Nebraska once they leave, cause I wanna see a true Big 12 team whip those Big? 10 schools.

Seriously selfish attitude portrayed in this show. Just because you’re not directly using some service? no one should get it? You might be majoring in, say, Journalism, but your school could also teach courses in Photoshop where they have to pay for computers and the licenses to use the programs, so just because YOU’RE not taking those classes means your tuition shouldn’t go towards it?

This is the same mentality that people apply to taxes, “I don’t use food stamps, I don’t want to fund it!”

@nickbeau1 South. Only word I have to say why Nebraska will not win the Big 12 this year. Big 12 totally falling apart, Colorado and you left. And you went to a worse conference, which will obviously be easy to win in. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin. Big 10 had 5 teams over 500 last year, Big 12 had 8. And btw, 1 second away from winning counts? as a LOSS.
